Cabbage Palm

The Cabbage Palm (Livistona australis) is a tall, elegant Australian native palm with a slender trunk and a rounded canopy of fan-shaped fronds. In landscape settings, it typically grows between 6–10 metres tall with a crown width of around 2–3 metres. Its upright, clean structure makes it ideal for creating vertical interest, lining driveways, or adding height to tropical and coastal gardens. As a hardy and long-lived species, it’s well-suited to both residential and large-scale landscaping projects across a range of climates.

Cabbage Palms thrive in full sun to part shade and are highly adaptable to a variety of soil types, including sandy, loamy, and even clay soils with good drainage. They require moderate watering during the first 6–12 months, after which they are drought-tolerant and low-maintenance. Prune old or damaged fronds as needed to keep a tidy appearance. As a native species, the Cabbage Palm is naturally resilient, handling wind, salt spray, and varied environmental conditions with ease, making it a reliable choice for long-term planting with minimal upkeep.
